The journey to foster care doesn’t start with a child placement. The process requires asking God to help us think through this decision, examining the realities of foster care and examining our own past hurts.

  • This decision has to begin with prayer. God is good to give us direction when we are considering something big like foster care. If you have never prayed before, we would love for you to invite us in to pray for you.

  • Send us your story and let us pray for you HERE

  • Let’s think through our reasons for wanting to become a foster parent. One thing that we have to consider is trauma and past hardships. Foster care can be a deeply rewarding calling, however, it can be very hard, at times; stirring up all kinds of hurt from our own pasts. Children in foster care can arrive very broken, needing different levels of therapy, care and attention. As caregivers, we need to make sure we are in the right place to take this on. Here are a few resources to consider before the next part of our journey:

    • Questions for Families Preparing to Foster or Adopt

    • Attend Trauma Informed Connections & Care Training at FLBC.

    • Begin understanding your own trauma through the ACEs Quiz . If you find yourself having experienced trauma, it may be helpful to process this further under the care of a licensed therapist.
